Hollyhock

In keeping with my latest attempt to simplify, simplify, simplify...here's my sketch for today. This is from a photo I took in the garden we had a few years ago. Wish I had these lovely things growing out there now. But I surprised myself by completing this all in one day..it usually takes me that long just to plan what I intend to do!
Watercolor pencils on (spongelike)handmade paper in 6x9 1/2 inch journal, which unfortunately doesn't scan very well, either.

  2. Nice layout and a great drawing. Sometimes it is hardest starting a project than working on it. I think it is that crazy critic that always nags at us. Kick it to the curb! Great job!

  3. Great! I love hollyhocks, and you captured their look so well here.

I'm a slow worker, too, but I don't plan...I'll take some of your planning skills if you don't mind sharing them!

Very nice drawing and page you've made!

  4. This is lovely! We have a hollyhock blooming in our garden but I have been too afraid to try to paint it. You captured it perfectly!
I know what you mean about planning - I can overdo it with planning too, instead of just "doing".

  5. It's absolutely lovely!! A nice journal page -- simplicity is sometimes BEST. Don't fret over how long you plan, one of the greatest watercolorists, Edgar Whitney, said (and this may not be verbatim!) "Plan like a turtle and paint like a rabbit."
