I am having problems doing flat washes using both WC pencils and WC crayons. I would do well to handle backgrounds differently, or use WC paints instead.

Wow Mary these flowers are beautiful. I am sure you will get the knack of it soon. I have not worked with pencils or crayons so don't know a thing about it. You could give a darker backgroun but I see nothing wrong with this back ground
